Neil - it's probably unlikely to be checking the actual amount of email you're getting, just there'll be a quota on the amount of Disk Space you're allowed to use, so a periodic clearout of your email is probably the solution (I graduated from Edinburgh, so this is just a bit of a guess), if this is the case then going to the digest version then it'll not help much (just a bit by removing headers from each email).
