discussion about cartons. Has anyone noticed how the standard issue tetrapaks which replaced old fashioned milk bottles in the UK during the course of the 80s are now only ever available in corner shops, and even then rarely, and have been superceded by a dizzying array of arrangements for getting milk from your carton...press-in spouts, blah, blah, blah....
this is where i interject with a tidbit from MY CAPITALIST EXISTENCE. my dad worked for tetra pak, in fact that's how he ended up in russia for the first place. you see, they own a penal colony in siberia where many of these cartons that are so popular in the uk and europe are manufactured. most of the inmates are capitalist "spies" who don't realize that communism has fallen because the news travels rather slowly up there. ooooh, the irony! for those who are impressionable, i just made most of that up. well, except for two things, you'll have to guess which two. and peter miller makes a lot of stuff up too. Today's Time Out magazine includes a guide to New York. Under the cabaret listing is the following:
"Kiki & Herb at Fez: This drag cabaret act offers a programme of entertainment that will leave you screeching with laughter. Kiki plunders everything from Tori Amos and the Wu-Tang Clan to Belle & Sebastian and Momus in her own drunken, debauched fashion..."
yeah, they played a cover of "fox in the snow" at the knitting factory while opening for the magnetic fields about a year ago. how many threads did i just combine into one concise sentence? so that's about it. nothing interesting to report unless you think that sweltering in the summer in new york is terribly exciting. if so, i'll go on for hours. ;) and girls, i think feminism is alive and well on this list. we've got hairy armpit's and baby's ass smooth armpits, but to me, having the pride in yourself to be ableto realize that you're worth fighting for and that you deserve the chance to start off dead even with the rest of the world (despite the fact that it will be denied to most of us one way or the other) is pretty much the point to me. and i think we all have that. xox megan mkl206@is8.nyu.edu who are magnetic fields? http://www.dissemination.com/megan/magneticfields/ updated 4/26/99 +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister@majordomo.net".
