you know what bothers me about some girls? they think belle and sebaastian sound like hanson! and then i just make TINY retort over their marylin manson and i get 'Don't make fun of it if you don't understand it!' i'm sorry, but if you found mister marylin in your cupboard wouldn't you pick up his slimy worm body with 2 sticks and throw him out in the garbage!?!?
Liking Belle and Sebastian is about being young and clever. Liking Marilyn Manson is about being young and webellious. I've never been sure which is more P!O!P!, but I was never very good at being webellious, whereas being clever is easy. I did once making a long atonal noise for several hours when my parents refused to let me stay up to watch 'Psycho', but they kept their nerve and I fell asleep. By the way, being webellious is definitely different to being rebellious, but is quite similar to being billious. Anyway, they next time these girls make an idiotic remark along these lines, make like you're squaring up for a fight, with your face right in theirs. Then lick them. They will probably taste horrid, but at least you'll gain the moral advantage. Archel wrote:
the night before was also funny. some friends and i were drinking copious amounts of wine when suddenly a darling boy named al produced a guitar and we all rocked into a spontaneous version of 'get me away...' of course it was rather drunken and poor, and not really good enough for a tribute tape, but in its own little way it felt like the greatest tribute to b&S there could be. 6 friends full of love and happiness singing their hearts out in a small, messy living room
Last weekend, my friends were singing stupid songs like 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in a cave somewhere on the north Cornish coast and I insisted on not getting the point at all and piping up with countless Belle and Sebastian songs. Although I forgot the verse about priests in booths, my rendition of 'The State I Am In' nearly won round some non-believers. Hello Lindsey. I don't want to start off a fight on this topic again (check the fight archives), but does no one else find this image ever so slightly amusing? No? OK then.

They played a new song : Lord Anthony
What a terrific name. I can't be the only one to spot that this was one of the C&A labels from the 80s. I used to have a great elephant. Also I had a great elephant grey anorak with a 'Lord Anthony' label on the left breast. Other great C&A labels: Clockhouse and Avanti! Actually, thinking about it, it might not have been a C&A label at all. It could have been a genuine independent imprint. Sorry, Lord Anthony. Then he asked:
Does anyone know which songs will be on the next EPs ?
it was going to be Paper Boar, I know where the Summer goes and the Gate, not in any particular order. Dunno whether it's changed since
So Keith said: then, but that's the word on the street at the moment. Paper Boar? What a terrific idea. Reminds me of last weekend again, when minibus games degenerated to 'Smiths songs with meat products in them'. 'Miserable Pie' was my favourite. And Keith, where is this street where forthcoming Belle and Sebastian releases get discussed. It sounds like my kind of thoroughfare. How about 'The boy with the Quorn in his side', a favourite with the vegetarians amongst us I'm sure. Sorry, sorry. I'm just in that sort of mood. Archel _____________________________________________________
