Sinister: B&S & Indie nights
Thanks Dr Stride for mentioning the Indie night. I'm thinking about what other types of music Belle & Sebastian can accompany, and sound great with. Personally speaking I don't think they fit well with the majority of Indie bands (or whatever Indie counts as nowadays), especially at a student disco. B&S are a band I listen to, both musically and lyrically. Until I actually get to hear B&S being played whilst I am in a club I don't see how they would fit in. Some of the list, yeah, Smiths, Stereolab, Super Furry Animals, but they all have the same mood. I think I'll play around with me tapes tonight and see what mixes'an'moods work. Anyone else have thoughts? ____________________________________ / \ Paul Forsyth / E: paulf@scs.leeds.ac.uk \ Computer Science { W: http://www.scs.leeds.ac.uk/paulf/ } University Of Leeds \ P: +44-113-233-6789 / Leeds LS2 9JT \____________________________________/ United Kingdom ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . ooh, how strange. i played B&S last night down our Living Room club. It was after a Broadcast tune, at the end of the night... i was actually really pissed off because the sound system was fucked and one of the decks fell apart at the start so i had to mix with one deck and a CD, which was annoying cos most of my stuff was on vinyl. Um, which is maybe why i chose to spin 'Get me away from here...' ANyway, people came up and said, hey cool tunes... so i must have done something right. Oh yeah, and this was a night of drum'n'bass, hip hop, jazz, space rock, whatever... certainly not an 'indie' night. And B&S fitted in superbly. I have a tape of the mix if you want proof :-) the duke Tangents On-Line http://www.virtual-pc.com/tangent/ Tangents On-Paper: PO Box 102, Exeter, EX2 4YL, UK tangent@mail.zynet.co.uk ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Something like "Fox in the Snow" might be a good end of the night smoocher. Especially if it's snowing outside. You could play it after "Foxy Lady" and "Fox on the Run". And you could say, "this one's for all you sly old foxes out there prrrrowling the dance floor looking for some lurve action in the chicken coop...there'll be feathers flying tonight....grrrrrrowwll!"

Try doing your own Chemical Boys remix. Combine Public Enemy and Belle and Sebastian to produce Public Bellamy. Boom, boom!!
