Sinister: The Sinistre monde of POP
Hi all! I am taking a course on European Cinema and this week and next one it will be focused on Nouvelle Vague. We have to do research on our own on some influences they received and acknowledged or how they influence other artistic works, and prepare some presentation to show our conclusions to the rest.Supposedly we have to be clever enough to unveil some hidden ones... Being aware of Isobel's 'in the face' fondness of 'Pierrot le Fou' or 'Jules et Jim',though all i know about filmic inspiration for Stuart is Hal Hartley's movies,is there any explicit reference in Belle and Sebastian lyrics/videos/artwork or/& The Gentle Waves (or other nineties bands)arising from N.Vs films? I have been told something related to 'Hurley's having dreams' ,but I am not sure what it is,and 'Is it wicked ...?' video, but I have not seen this latter. 'Masculin/Femenin' by Goddard was (allegedly)one of the first films about how market had contaminated art,in special, music and offered a bleak ,hopeless portrait of ye-ye scene.I have not seen this one either, but I am trying to read the script to use it as a basis for my work, and that's why I would like to find some 'experimental' confirmation of G's possible influence in Stuart's well known opinion of musical career and marketing. Any contribution will be welcomed.
