I've just read the interview with Europopsters Aqua in the NME this week and I was so filled with admiration that I felt I had to write. One of the band is quoted as saying: "I'm really sorry that we made a record that millions of people like, and that we didn't wear boring clothes and we didn't play guitars and sing about what boring lives we have !" Yeaay ! What a top manifesto and a refreshing alternative to the complaint rock hegemony that clouds the pop horizon these days. "B&S content ?" I hear the exasperated mutters. Well, throughout the interview what comes across is an utter disdain for the empty cliches of rock orthodoxy and an ambivalence to critical opinion of their work. Does this remind you of anyone ? B&S and Aqua, kindred spirits, who'da thought it ! Altogether now, "C'mon, Barbie, let's go party ! Ah, ah, ah, yeah !" ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
