a vast crowd that includes the Beatles, the Tindersticks, Nick Drake, the Smiths, Paul Simon, and the Lovin' Spoonful. Paul Simon? Where did that one come from? anyone got any thoughts? Never mind this top 10 songs thing (agog though I am to hear the "winner"), perhaps we should also vote for top B&S moments. Here are five of mine: 1. the way Stuart sings "because she wanted informa-tion"... on Sinister 2. that wee voice going "I don't know!" on Photo Jenny 3. the way the melody suddenly kicks in at the beginning of The State I'm In, in a moment of unbearable beauty, and then builds and builds 4. the last cheeky line of Centuries of Elvis 5. the way you're not quite sure if Stuart will reach the high note on "washing up" in She's Losing It just a thought C ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Good one, Charlotte! Much prefer this to a top 10: how about... The intentional unintentional intentional wobbly school recorders in "Judy"? a) When Stuart's voice cracks on "impressed" in State I Am In b) That change to a high note on the last word of the line "There was blood on the sheets a-gain" in You Make Me Forget Me Dreams b2) Same thing when he kicks into the chorus for Judy and the Dream of Hoa-oa-oa-oa-orses c) The haunting reprise at the end of Beautiful d) "Seven to Eight years old" Well, that's pretty small... thank yew francisco ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Just FYI...I have been playing B&S nearly constantly since I arrived here at school, and at least five different people who had never heard them before told me that the sound was reminiscent of Paul Simon. Personally, I'm not sure I see it, but hey...whatever butters your proverbial muffin, I always say (or maybe proverbial pastie??). As far as promos go, posters are always a good thing. universal appeal, I think. ta, Amanda -- Amanda Bergman Northwestern University a-bergman@nwu.edu "At another table, a girl stared solemnly into her cup. For me it has to be the bit in Stars of Track and Field when he starts singing the verse high... 'to get her round the track, but when she's on her back...' with that gorgeous guitar sound accompanying... Also the end of 'you made me forget my dreams' - how cool is that?
