the magic number is 25!!!
We get mid-weeks everyday now for some reason, and even though 25 looks good, the position was 17 for Monday's sales and 22 for Tuesday's.
um, i think it's going to be very close. the numbers seem to be slipping daily and i think that's purely because of the low stock levels that the shops are ordering. come saturday, when i guess the bulk of a week's records are sold, you just won't be able to find '3, 6, 9...' on the shelves anywhere and people will have to resort to buying another copy of that elton john record (the one that i still haven't heard more than 20 seconds of but i guess i'm just lucky), or that one that goes on about tangoing the foxtrot or something. or that one which destroys 'life in a northern town'. oh, and on ceefax this morning i noticed a list of bands on this week's totp and b&s weren't there. can't remember who exactly were playing but jayne middlemarch (or whatever) was presenting. um, ceefax page 560 something for details (565 i think), it's a sub page of the chart rundown. um, sent both the single of the week reviews to the list yesterday but they haven't yet appeared. curious. i'll give it until this afternoon and re-send them. i was also about to start transcribing the tour diary and sending it here a bit at a time (to build up the tension or something, or because i can't be arsed to type it all in in one go). but i'll leave that for the time being too... oh, katrina, got laura's mail. ta. it was actually paul that was enquiring but i need the info too so... have given her his address. oh paul, i gave laura your address... andy dipsy: "wassat?" tinky winky: "guitar. run away!" ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Well, it's dropped again to number 27. I've spoken to our pluggers, and apparently TOTP generally don't play it, unless it's inside the 25, so it may not happen. The band were originally going to play "Century", however as TOTP only play 3min tracks, they have pretty much decided that is they get asked to do it, then it'll be "Le Pastie", as that's 3min1sec long (or something). I will be so disappointed if they don't get asked ... and I know the band will be too, considering how negative they usually are, this is obviously really inportant to them ... ho hum.

isn't that for who's on tonight? there's going t be an interview with Richard and Stuart D. in the NME in 2 weeks time, I think Neil and Chris may have also said a few things too, but you never know what's happening with B&S :) Also, a Rebellious Jukebox from the Murdoch himself in Melody Maker soon-ish too. Just keeping you all up-dated!
oh, katrina, got laura's mail. ta. it was actually paul that was enquiring but i need the info too so... have given her his address.
I couldn't remember Paul's site's address when I was talking to her, so I just said it was the one that used the cartoon which had a link from David's site ... i'm sorry, i'm a girl and i can't remember these long backslash underscore at colon dot thingies ... that's what boys and bookmark's are for! Guess who's going record shopping tomorrow ... (ONLY JOKING!!!)

Andrew seems to need some help...
to start transcribing the tour diary and sending it here a bit at a time (to build up the tension or something, or because i can't be arsed to type it all in in one go). but i'll leave that for the time being too...
I propose that each of us (at least 7 or 8 of us) transcribe one of the "calls", so that everybody may benefit from this very long text... Shall I start? Melody Maker, October 18, 1997 "Give us a belle" - In the first of our occasional series of tour diaries, Belle and Sebastian regale us with some wild NY stories. Stuart David kicks us off. I bought a $10 phone card from a news stand on the street in Times Square, and I phoned home. I had to punch in 33 numbers before anything happened, and then a recorded voice with an American accent said, "You have 81 minutes remaining for this call." And the phone rang. And then a second recorded voice with a Scottish accent said : "Hi, this is Karn and Stuart; just leave a message. Bye." It seemed wee Karn had already left for the farm, and i'd forgotten to bring the number there. But she's crazy about NY, and it's her ambition to come here, and we all wanted to let her know what it was like. So we decided to phone her up one at a time and leave a big long message for when she got home. It went pretty much like this: CALL#1 Hi Karn, it's Stuart. You should see the hotel we're staying in. It's a modernist nightmare. It's designed by Philip Stark and it looks like a set from a Eurythmics video from the middle of the eighties. The foyer's pitch dark, and our rooms are pure white, with huge, gold frames -with nothing in them- behind each bed. In the bathrooms, the sinks are big silver cones, each with its point on the floor, and every soft chair has a 10-foot back and only one arm. We've found our own surrogate home-from-home cafe. 'S called Howard Johnson's, and it's just like the Grovesner because, no matter what time you go in, you're always sure to find at least one band member in there. I did get one beamer just outside there, though. This guy walked past that I thought I recognised from Glasgow, and when he'd gone by I turned to see who he was with, so I could work out who he was. But it turned out he was with Damon from Blur, and that he was Dave the drummer. And I was standing there as if I was starspotting. Still... we're having a great time. Here's Bel. Who's next for call#2? Walter -- " Get me away from here, I'm dying..." ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
