I fail to see how anyone could give "The Talented Mr Ripley" seven out of ten, unless they were a Matt Bianco fan dazzled by Jude Law's jazzy titfer. Matt Bianco were on the telly the other night. Only Matt is left. They did "That's What I Say I Say Yeah Yeah" instead of my personal favourite "Sneaking Out the Back Door With a Grin". I know most people go for "Get Out Your Lazy Bed", but that's what P!O!P! is all about - spouting shite. Gwyneth Paltrow's got a big bum. She was on the telly outside the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and her backside was so big you could hardly see the museum. It's true - if you watch her films closely, you'll notice that she never gets her arse out, just her tits. I enjoyed the recent discussion of late eighties NME and MM content. I would be first in the queue if I lived in the UK and the dog promised never to do a jobby ever again. I've heard two new B&S songs on the radio - Stevie's "Wrong Gurl", which has been jollied up with some strings, giving it a nice "Cowboy in Sweden" feel, and "Waiting for the MoooOooooOOOoon to Rise" by the Wild Woman of Wonga, which has a kind of harpsichord thing on it and is deeply groovy. I don't know if this is old news or not. I've also heard two Looper songs, one was like a cheap Beck impersonation and the other one had a kind of sub-New Order bass on it and the familiar Strawberry Fields keyboard sound. Business as usual. At least he's had the decency to put his vocals through some kind of effects box. The lyrics were something about how beautiful everyday things are, something I was hoping that bloody plastic bag between two wind machines in "American Beauty" would have got rid of for good. I might see some of you UK listees next week or the week after, should the chance arise. I don't know whether this will involve scouring the co-ops of Oxford or dropping into the Po Caff for a nice jacket potato or stalking Keith or hanging out in Fleet Street "drinking clubs" or none of the above. I'm definitley going to be popping down John Menzies for a Trousercuts though.
