hopefully this reply will go to the right place (sorry paul, i have different
troubles to everyone else, all these posts come from 'owner-sinister' and
replies go there unless i've got my thinking head on and remember to change
them).
anyway, people were talking about arab strap...
>'First Big Weekend' is a great record, and the
>LP is all great too. I have a review on my
>ezine if anyone really wants to know what i
>thought/think of it. The 'Clearing' 12" is
>great too, with the Belle connection and some
>cool beatz remixes on the flip.
well, i think it's now that i should point out that two of b&s played on the
arab strap peel sessions a while ago too - chris and stuart m added keyboards
to the 4 tracks they played... (smell of outdoor cooking, first big peel thing,
i saw you, er, something else)
also, someone mentioned that '...weekend' could get tedious after a while.
well, everytime i've heard them do it live or in session they've changed the
words to reflect the previous weekend which keeps it fresh. it also means he
has to read it off a piece of paper every time which is comical - reminds me of
mark e smith with the inspirals on totp. actually i have this same problem with
'a century of elvis', that i've heard it too often. strangely though, the real
version of the song, 'a century of fakers', is a lot simpler lyrically but i'm
not sick of it yet - less content = more longevity somehow.
um, also, the new arab strap single contains lyrics from the first single
('went out for the weekend, it lasted forever...') done in a comedy voice (and
repeated far too often). = bad.
