How can this be? IYFS was released in Nov' 96. I know this
is depressing, but B&S should not appear in "best albums of '97" in any
British magazines and newspapers. I've worried about this (though not
enough to have sleepless nights), that a great album will be ignored
in an annual review by music journalists. IFYS came out too late in
1996 for most people to have heard of it and definitely too late to
make an impression on the music press and end up in the polls.

I reckon it was only in the new year that the journalists will have heard
their promo copies and take note. They would then have a whole
year to enjoy and write about it positively, which they did.
I'm sure many magazines would like to have IYFS in the top 10 lps of 1997,
but they cannot. I wouldn't be surprised if it is given a special mention
or made an honorary album of 1997. Most journalists know that IYFS
is too good to be ignored and deserves a wider audience. One thing for sure is
that B&S will be mentioned in the "bands to watch in 1998".

I always thought that it is bad move to release a new studio lp
in the last 2 months of the year, as it will be overlooked in the
Xmas deluge when the big hitters and the compilation albums fight it out for
the grannie pound.

Why was November chosen for the release of IYFS? Couldn't it have waited
till the new year?

At least next year's album should top the polls of 1998.

Do not underestimate the power of end of year reviews. Portishead's "Dummy"
was the top album of 1994 (or in the top 3) in all the magazines and newspapers.
I remember reading letters in the MM criticising them for choosing someone
the readers had never heard of. Of course, the press were vindicated when
Portishead went ballistic in 1995.
