I think everyone's got a point. I'm sure Tag's intentions
were honourable and it's been nice to read peoples' opinions
on a slice of pop history I missed. I like Disney Girls too.
To be honest, I don't think B&S come close (yet), but in an
attempt to calm everyone down, here's a bit of what Rock De
Lux, Spanish pop mag, have to say about the Cock Fun Mob's
concert in Barcelona:
"A lot was expected of BELLE AND SEBASTIAN, partly because
IYFS has just turned itself into an unexpected and
spontaneous classic, because in Great Britain the "sold out"
sign is hung outside the door only hours after tickets go on
sale, because they don't make many trips abroad, and because
they're big and small at the same time. Big because of songs
such as "Like Dylan in the Movies" and "Get Me Away From
Here, I'm Dying" (I coud say any of the songs from the
album, but these are the only ones they played from it) and
because more than a group, they are a pop orchestra. Small
because of the reigning lack of connection on stage, for the
amateurish air they wrap everything in....because if they
weren't still small, they would be the best pop group of
this decade."
There, that's all for now. I think it's one of the nicest
reviews I've seen. I particularly like "pop orchestra".
There's also a very nice photo, in which Isobel can be seen
fiddling with her bow and looking at Stuart, who's playing
his guitar and singing. TThe caption is "shyness in the
rye".
There's also a big long article (2 pages), but it's beyond
me at the moment.
I hope that has induced a bit of warmth in everyone's heart
cockles, instaed of arguing about the merits of calling
oneself Neily Weely. For the record, I think it's a good
idea.
