Sinister: Bring on the Bomb Squad

You get a bad feeling and that's it. Usually I can't justify it, but
yesterday it was more than just bad vibes.

I just moved into a new flat in West London. I hate moving, and spent
the whole of yesterday day cloaked in a frown and a foul disposition. It
didn't improve matters when I dragged yet another hoard of binbags
around the corner to come face to face with what appeared to be the riot
police outside my new home...

We're talking vans, sirens, full protective regalia, the lot. Not
particularly condusive to glee in one's new abode.

No sign of rampant violence, though. I stand petrified, in search of the
brawl. By this time a not inconsiderable crowd has gathered and it
tranpires that the officers in question are in fact the bomb squad,
who've come to investigate a suspect package.

There's these bloody great dogs pacing about, and I seem to be the only
one eager to get the hell out of there before said 'bomb' blows us all
to buggery.

And it's about this time I start having second thoughts about my choice
of residential location.

Anyway, all is well. Transpires that the old woman downstairs is a
little, how shall I put it, over-cautious, and she'd been posted this
suspect package which had installed the fear of God in her. Apparently
her husband is something to do with the Conservative party and she was
worried that someone was after him.

The police eventually revealed the contents of the package to The
Terrorist's Prime Target, now hysterical. It was a Church of Scotland
collection box.

So I don't know how it's going to be in my new flat. I may have a
bastion of insatiable paranoia for a neighbour but hey, at least the
street's still in one piece. Yesterday's events meant that I got very
little unpacking done, but I plugged in my stereo and last night, armed
with a Pot Noodle, a bottle of Tequila and a plastic cup, forgot the
towering boxes around me and settled down with Belle and Sebastian. Home
Sweet Home.
