the beauty of email discussion is once you hit
that send button, it's out of your jurisdiction
and people will take it wherever they will... this
is something i love with a passion :-)

it seems to me that we're arguing to the same end
point around a nebulous phrase. i wholeheartedly
put my hand in the air and plead 'guilty' to
making distinctions in my own interpretation of my
moments, and make the arbritrary choice of the
word 'Pop' over 'rock'n'roll' simply because Vic
Godard made such a strident point about it, and
that someone like Lawrence also made the same
choice. referential reverence... which is
entirely Pop because Pop is obsessive, and is
obsessively about the moment of transendence...
it's always about reaching (back) to That Moment /
That Feeling. Call it what you want... but i
don't think that just saying 'music' is enough.
'music' is just the empty potential, because not
all music makes me feel That Feeling. You need to
make the distinction between that which does, and
that which does not. You might, as Kevin Pearce
has said, say simply 'Great' or 'Not Great', but i
don;t think that's expressive enough. I choose
the word Pop because i feel it annoys enough
people, and because it sounds right! :-)

are we through yet?
