This is a photo of Matt's hat.  As you can see, it's a reddish knit watch cap
that used to be a deeper shade a couple of years ago. Since the hat is lying
on top of a pile of dirty clothes,  Matt must be in the shower or asleep
because those are the only times that the hat isn't on his head.  He's been
wearing it everyday for several years now, ever since the Zambonis threw it
out into the audience at an in-store show at Secret Sounds.  Actually, it is
not the original hat.  That one was grabbed off his head at school by someone
who poured chocolate milk in it and threw it on the roof or in the dumpster.
 The dean wouldn't do anything about it.  Dave Zamboni went right home and
got  this hat for Matt when he heard the story and it has become a fact of
our lives.  Once, the hat got left behind in Barbados.  But Matt's
grandfather got in touch with the hotel from Miami between flights and they
sent it back via Fed-Ex overnight, so it was only missing for one day.
 Another time, the hat blew out a bus window on a highway in Maine.  The bus
driver had to radio back to the camp and Howie, who runs the farm, drove 5 or
6 miles to pick it up off the road.  If you look closely you can see a little
tear in the side.  Matt swears his sister tried to cut up his hat, which is
feasible because she's 14 and finds it embarrassing, but I don't think she
did.  Anyway, no one around here would need to actually have Matt in the
picture to know this is a photo of him.
