Sinister: lyrics vs. singing

I read a couple messages about lines that are written one way in the
lyric sheet and sung differently. I've always wondered about this, with
Belle and other bands. Is it just an oversight? Are they playing with us?
Obviously the wording evolves as a song comes about, but why is the lyric
sheet sometimes (a bit) off?

Examples, "if you just want to cuddle...we won't get into trouble" vs.
"we won't get in the muddle." "You are the one who's privy" vs. "I am the
one..." The order of "I had to catch a bus" and "I had to go to work..."

Now I know I'm bordering on obsessive, but a literary band like B&S
(they even write all right as two words -- my freshman English teacher
would be proud), I'm curious about this little thing...
