My apologies to M&S. In my day they wouldn't accept Switch.
As if to underline the monumental importance of M&S in
British culture, my mother is coming to visit soon (HELP!!),
so she very kindly asked if I wanted anything from M&S. In a
rare display of diplomacy I said "Yes, mum. Those nice
shirts that you don't have to iron and make you look like
the Oasis brothers if you're careful not to smile."
Actually, I skipped the bit about Oasis. Don't want to freak
the old girl out too much.
M&S are about to open several new stores in Germany. They
recently got into trouble with a smarty pants art expert for
printing a Botticelli painting the wrong way round. The
expert said that Botty (as his friends call him) would have
been furious. I bet he bloody wouldn't, especially if they
offered him a sizeable discount in the food hall (easily the
best bit of M&S).
They've also just banned eggs manufactured by battery hens,
which is very nice of them.
What would we do without marks and Spencers?
Peter
