great bands (bar none!) FIRST on John Peel - ok, let's name drop a little, shall we.......Joy Division, The Fall, Orange Juice, Fire Engines, Gang of Four, Birthday Party, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, Public Enemy, My Bloody Valentine, Pavement, Belle & Sebastian(!) - heard 'em all on Peel first (and I'm

Yes... but isn't this just because he plays virtually anything that's new - he's bound to score a few hts given that he's been on for 30 years. I notice that out of all of these, only two bands are from the 90's, and Belle and Sebastian were on Radcliffe first. Most of these bands were from the 80's, when he was on (almost intolerably) every night, with bands like Napalm Death and Terminal Cheescake, Wedding Present sessions every week and a love for bands like Stump - then he got into world music + acid house, and again managed to make his show virtually unlistenable by single-handedly picking bollock loads of shit tracks to play.
[ Incidentally - since B+S are in America at the moment in case people think this discussion is losing the thread a bit, there's not really much news to report, when they're back I suppose it'll get back on the track a bit.
Also, am I the only one to think that "Slow Grafitti" which was on the radio last night was not just a *tad* bit boring? ]
Cheers.
