I was similarly disullusioned when I found myself teaching English to
"foreigners". It was nothing like "Mind Your Language" at all! No one ever
called me "professori", not once did I receive an apfel strudel as a token
of appreciation, and conflicts between Muslims and Hindus were virtually
non-existant.
