Sinister: kids books and Pixel juice

I loved the Susan Cooper ones (there were 5 or 6) and the CS Lewis ones 
too. My favourite is the Voyage of the DawnTreader. CS Lewis wrote a 
book called Mere Christianity? which I started but it was a trifle dry, 
if you can have a dry trifle.. There were several other sci fi type 
authors who did whole sets of books like Lloyd Alexander and to some 
extent Arthur Ransome and then the historico ones like Rosemary 
Sutcliffe or Henry Treece.

For peeps who still like that light scifi on the surface but funny and 
deep really, may I recommend Jeff Noon (new books - Nymphomation and 
Pixel Juice) I went to see him read in October and it was quite an 
experience- He did pared down dub versions (all sung/chanted)of some of 
the short stories and a load of puns like:

Jonny takes metaphorozine. He's a real dog

brian takes Laetotizol. 
Sparkles like a graveyard but never gets the urge

Josie takes Hyperbolatide.
That mouth such bliss and the planets and the satellites take refuge 
inside her lips.

Desmond takes onomatopiates. He's a woof-woof.

I also found an old book in a 2nd hand bookshop/cafe here in Cambridge 
called cb1- it's a great place a bit like cafe.alt on Ave A- a hardback 
guide to Track and Field with all black and white pictures and a dusty 
dust jacket. Almost bought it.
