R: Sinister: Opening lines, and NO not in *that* way!!!!

The problem with this idea, IMO, is that almost everyone reads thier books
in their own language translation.
So I could tell you a lot of wonderful opening lines in italian but I think
it would be useless.
I try with an english one:
"If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want
to know is where I was born, and what my childhood was like, and how my
parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David
Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it."
I hope everyone knows where I picked up this one.
