Sinister: Cold turkey

I know this seems like a strange request but I was lay in bed
last night, as you do, and I was wondering why it is called cold
turkey when you attempt to give up drugs in that way? Please,
could anyone save me from any more sleepless nights.

And where can I get hold of a Tigers milk bar?!
