It's true, certainly the early 80's were rather jam packed with nice singles
here and there, unfortunately, not a lot that translates into a good album
very often - at least in terms of the chart acts you're talking about, but
plenty of nice stuff... Saw "Fade to Grey" by Visage on VH-1 the other week
and it was cool. Elton John had some nice singles in the early 80's. I could
be sure however that Mr.Blue Sky by ELO was from 1979, but that's me being
completely anal. However, the early eighties turned into the mid 80's, and
David Bowie was seen to be number 1 with Mick Jagger, whilst they Danced in
the street to the most horiffically funny video ever made, tragically crap
it was, and then Live Aid, with the Quo and Queen, which wasn't very good
really, and basically form then on till Madchester, the UK was a pretty
boring place - I guess some people will point out that there were loads of
good bands, which they'd be right about, just that 99.99% of the British
public will have never heard of them - except Strawberry Switchblade I
suppose. And the Primitives... oh, but they're not very good... etc. etc.
The other thing is, about slagging the 80's, at the beginning of the
80's, there was a whole load of, "Oh the 70's were shite weren't they" going
down on the telly, however, this disappeared come the late 80's, it's maybe
getting a bit late for that now mind you! It doesn't seem to be happening in
the same way.

Cheers,
    Keith.
