ah... slight misunderstanding here methinks... the original posting referred to Northern Soul as in rare 60's soul records played at clubs that dust the floor with talcum powder in order to let those feet glide....... Not A Northern Soul as in verve's second album...
If you want more about Northern Soul, check out the many vinyl/cd re-issues on goldmine, Chess and charley records. I posted something a while ago about an old soul singer hero of mine, Terry Callier, who has recently worked with Beth Orton. T Hopkins mailed me back after a tape, and he seems very up on Northern Soul, so he might be able to help you (I'm more a soul Jazz, funk and brasilian fan myself) Choo-choo mitchell expressed a leaning (oo-err!) as well.....
There is a bootleg issue here as well, in that a lot of these rare groove compilations are iffy, and no money gets back to the original artists (although they all got ripped off by their original labels anyway...)
BTW to those I promised tapes of Terry Callier, they're on the way. And I still offer to make tapes of Tigermilk as well!!
