Sinister: Nit-picking at the very few bad parts of B&S

You're kidding, right? If you have any doubt that Seeing Other People
is one of the most perfect songs ever, play it on guitar, including the
crucial Am to A (A#m to A#, in actuality) at the "hand over the window"
part. It's undeniable. Perfect, perfect, perfect. And the production
is perfect, too. I love the piano bit. And the doubled vocals at the
"You're kissing your elbow" part...oy.

But unlike most other people, I actually really like Electronic
Renaissance. If you want REAL controversy, here it is: We Rule The
School is pretty much my least favorite song of all of the official
released stuff. I love the music, but I just can't get over "For anyone
to read and to see". To read AND see?!! And as pretty as it is, did
the world really need another take off of Pachelbel's Canon? The Farm
proved that *that* was a bad idea years ago.

I am one of those detractors. I believe I gave it a two. It's amazing
how such a great song can sound so bad. Am I the only one who's
bothered by how off-key ALL THREE of them are? The idea of doing is
slow is good, and I love the end bit (where no one's singing), but they
just didn't pull it off. Maybe with a little more practice, it can live
up to it's potential.

> The part where he sings
> "You never know/because you never show it/you always get your way" sounds
> exactly like "Charles in Charge/ of our days/ and our nights".

Wow. That's amazing. Vince Guaraldi's Peanuts theme AND the theme to
Charles in Charge! On the same album! That said, the chances of any
member of B&S having even HEARD of Charles in Charge are pretty slim.

But I strongly feel that the worst thing Belle and Sebastian have ever
done, and the only thing of their's that I don't at least *like* is
Hurley's Having Dreams. Really, they were drunk, right?

Before he got electronic,
     Reid
