I felt that I must offer up an opinion in dissidence to this, since it
strikes me as a bit insulting towards other shoegazing bands that I
happen to like a lot more than MBV. Personally I prefer MBV
pre-Creation, though I don't have enough money to buy any of the
recordings they made way-back-when, they pop up nicely on mixtapes in my
collection. Sunny Sundae Smile is perfection, that's all there is to it!
I can't belive anyone would leave it out of a MBV Top 5, but then it's
all a matter of preference. They really were more incredibly noisy
P!O!P! back than, rather than "shoegazers," but then the term hadn't
been invented at the time. I'd also like to mention that "Strawberry
Wine," and "Paint a Rainbow" are very wonderful. Not only that, but I
have to say that when I heard Isn't Anything for the first time I
couldn't believe my ears. Quite an abrupt change, I must say. It strikes
me as the cheesy wanky Aerosmith album of shoegazing, but like I said,
it's all opinion. I do agree that Loveless is quite good, but I don't
like it quite as much as a lot of people.
Other great bands considered shoegazers... Slowdive (firstly and
foremostly), the Secret Shine, early Pale Saints...
