Sinister: Tape Trees/Gregorian Chant/B&S Content - long un

I'm very excited about the incipient tape tree but I'm a little bit
worried that my tastes are so relentlessly mainstream (I've never heard
of half the bands mentioned on this list) that there will be few unknown
gems for my treemates to enjoy. But I shall honestly try my best.

The talk of Gregorian chant made me wonder if I might stick "a dope cut"
(as they say down the Abbey) or two on my selection but I don't think
that would really work. But anybody keen to get with the superflyest in
Medieval Plainsong action could do worse that cop a load of Tomas Luis
de Victoria - particularly his Requiem "Missa Defunctorum". This is
without doubt the most beautifull piece of music I have ever heard and
it's the only thing that has ever made me cry from the sheer beauty of
it. I was sitting with my dad at home in Oxford looking out into the
garden (well I say garden - acres of rolling parkland with muntjack deer
and performing otters gamboling on the greensward,you know the sort of
thing...) and we listened to the Victoria Requiem together. There's no
instruments just human voices and there are moments of such intense
beauty and glorious humanity that we both found the tears cascading down
our cheeks.Then again that's what I love about my Dad - he cries so
easily at the glory of the human spirit be it a Micheal Owen goal or a
nobel peace prize winner.

But that pure humanity in the music is something i see in bits of B&S -
in some of those fragile moments when Mr M's voice offers up the lines
before the music kicks in. Also on Cof Elvis just hearing the talking is
something I've grown to love. Oh blimey I'm not really explaining myself
that well but anyhow I know what I mean!
