Roald Dahl is a fantastic writer and despite the sometimes macabre, frequently
shocking, but always entertaining nature of his stories, he is not as
misanthropic as many would have us believe. I recommend "Switch Bitch" and
"Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life : The Country Stories of Roald Dahl" highly. Okay,
he is quite the purveyer of the perverse (see: "My Uncle Oswald" about a post-
Victorian self-styled sperm broker intent on preserving the ....um....
specimens of all the great minds of his day.) but there are few writers with
the imagination to elevate the 'weird' to 'art' as he does.
