Ralph McTell was the man in question - famous also for "Tickle on the Tum" on 
UK children's TV. Despite a distinctly uncred few years, he did write the 
maudlin country/folk song "From Clare To Here" which is pretty wonderful!

An "alternative" version of "Streets of London" was performed by the 
Anti-Nowhere League...its, um...different!
