Sinister: Dun-ghan-dee

All this talk of Ghandi or Dundee in relation to Seymour Stein misses an
important point. Why did they change it from the original lyrics which I
always thought were "North of Scotland has he seen?" which I admit could
well be wrong as it's a tortured sentance.

However I am in posession of some top secret Jeepster files which prove
my point and may well go on to ROCK the Belle & Sebastian World to it's
very FOUNDATIONS! The file is a transcript of a meeting between a
shadowy Jeepster operative (aka Warlord), a Ms(!) H., Stuart Murdoch
and Stevie Jackson. Murdoch, sounding more and more like his namesake
Rupert, suggests that they should target the song at a more influential
record-buying area than the north of Scotland. Somewhere with a
demographic profile more likely to respond to their product and where
they can shift enough units to keep them in Rich Tea biscuits in their
dottage. What follows is a brainstorming session for alternatives...

SJ "Has he ever seen Kircudbright - will he fly a
microlite....hmm..NO..."
SM "Has he ever been to Peebles - will he bring his famous
weebles.....naah"
Ms H. "Has he visited Kirkaldy - will he find the bus stops
shoddy...maybe???"

Anyhow this goes on for some time before they resolve to consult some
statistics and put the proposals before a focus group of selected young
people. In the end Dundee, City of Discovery, is selected as being a
representitive urban area that people found the least worst option. So
much for the creative process...

I have a similar hunch that's what happened to Canada's Moxy Fruvous in
their song "King of Spain". Once upon a time the line said "Now the Habs
call me up to drive the Zamboni" then when they released the CD it
became "The Leafs call me up..." In otherwords switching the focus from
Montreal, after further unrest concerning the constitutional position of
the province of Quebec, to Toronto home of more English speaking record
buyers. Pah - deeply sinister I call it. It's all part of a big global
conspiracy...it's the military-industrial-complex...it's..hello, hello -
anybody there....ooh sorry Sir Cliff.

One more thing - list crushes... I say they don't count if you've
actually seen the person involved. Unless your crush began before you
met or saw their picture. Email is the perfect vehicle for wonderful
crushes on the most inappropriate people you've only ever seen in your
minds eye. Some c'mon let's do it, let's fall in love with each other

xx
