good morning, good afternoon, good evening dear bunnies,
there are several things i need to address, but as i am working (aren't i
always?) this will be brief:
1) list crushes: wowee zowee, someone has a crush on me! woo hoo, one
vote! i must say i am flattered. i have no idea who you are, but please,
if you wish to make yourself known do so. hee hee. unless it was mark
that voted for me, in that case i *knew* all about your crush, wink wink.
:) i myself didn't vote, cos i was afraid big stu was forwarding all the
mail to the votees, but now i apologise for my paranoia and admit that stu
is a top lad. cheers. if i did participate, of course my votes go for
lorraine and queen bee janine (i tell you her wings are *huge* didn't you
see them at the supper club?), who are indeed the most adorable listees.
or, actually, my list crush is...well, i'm too shy to say, but i will tell
you he fell into the five-vote category...
2) mark casarotto: i didn't realise he was so popular! yes, the fine boy
travelled to new york, we corrupted him badly, and he returned as a man.
i'm just teasing, of course! mark was lovely and as far as i know he had a
lovely time. read his post for details...
3) placebo/gomez: i didn't get to go. :(
4) cmj festival: i only caught two gigs...the bouncy and bubbly komeda on
friday (though i was feeling quite ill and couldn't 'get into it') and
mojave three on saturday. mojave was *much* more impressive than the first
time i saw them gig with lush in '96. i stayed awake this time. very
pretty stuff...verging (dare i say it?) on the charlatans side at times,
blame it on the hammond. we were saying though, mojave three is weird, cos
we feel like we're looking at *slowdive*, but they think they're some band
called mojave three...oh, and we caught six by seven. ace! otherwise, cmj
was a bit of a disappointment for me, cos i was too lazy and exhausted
after my belle and sebastian week and didn't make much of an effort to see
anything else. of course i found out about all the good shows after they
happened. :(
5) shoegazing/what i'm listening to/new music: i'd never describe myself as
a shoegazer, that's always been lorraine's department and she's much better
at it than me. :) but early ride/early lush/mbv/pale saints/slowdive/etc.
i still listen to. why is it that british indie kids like to take the piss
out of old shoegazers? i was tormented by the cool indie set in brighton
(i used to live there) for requesting chapterhouse while we'd be sitting
around doing nothing (which was all of the time). hmm. right now, as in
right at this very moment as i type this, i'm listening to the walker
brothers. the cds sititng in front of me for today's consumption: gene,
longpigs, lush 'gala', the love compilation, stereolab 'dots and loops'.
i've not bought anything recently (except for the gomez record, yeah!) but
i'm thinking of checking out add n to x...
and now for some belle and sebastian content!
6) 'seeing other people' - the sloooooooooow sessions version: someone
asked about vocal parts on this track last week. verse one is definitely
stevie. the three singers come together in one of the most lovely, if not
a little shaky, harmonies at the end...*sigh*
7) my parents and belle and sebastian: always ones for new music, my
parents are smitten with b&s. my dad actually attempted to take my copy of
'tigermilk' to work with him the other day, but i gracefully intercepted
the steal. no chance of that being lent out just yet, as it's only two
weeks old in my possession (cheers to francisco, who has sadly been bounced
from the list). also: my mom tells me stuart m. sings just like donovan.
agree or disagree?
8) b&s press: a one-page piece in this month's paper magazine (new york
rag...the issue with christina ricci on the cover). mostly an interview
with mick. it didn't teach me anything new. i don't know how i feel about
all of this press!
9) stuart's silver ttrousers: phwoar.
i lied about the brief thing...i promise to never write this much again.
carry on...
cheers, stasia
