		OK, so that's my bus story...

And I confess that it was me.  Buses are amusing places if you only know
where to look.  Here's another little tale...
		I was waiting for my bus at Holloway Road tube - if you
don't know London, it's like a high-society version of South Kensington -
having a very stupid jokey conversation with my friend about how he was
going to infiltrate the IT department at work and bring the systems down
etc, etc.  Eventually the bus arrived and I got on.  As I was embarking, my
friend said (jokingly) "Aha! But how do you know there isn't a bomb on the
bus?".  Now I know it's wrong to joke about bombs, and I apologise on behalf
of my friend, but we were very drunk.  A strange man then accosted my friend
(who strangely is also called Neil, which is at best weird, and at worst
laughable) and asked him if there was a bomb on board.  Neil denied all
knowledge of bombs and turned to walk home, whereupon the little madman
started pursuing him.  I watched out the back of the bus as Neil was
followed to the crossing in full argument with his new-found stalker.
		I went home had a kebab and passed out.
		Neil on the other hand was followed insistently by this guy,
arguing all the way, having to bluff and double bluff about whether he was
crossing the road or not, to the point that he had to walk past his house,
round the block, back up the road, before - about three miles later -
finally deciding he was safe to go into his own home.
		The moral of the story is, because in the absence of
Dawson's Creek someone has to get righteous, don't live near Holloway Road.
Never.  Ever.

awww the frank and walters are charming!  the
grand parade is a really lovely record and their
early songs in which they sung so exuberantly
about bus drivers and bicycles were great fun:)

and I say...so at least two people now own a copy of grand parade - and it's
a very underrated album.  And yes they were just silly boys, but they knew
how to spin a song.  I actually knew someone called Andy James, which made
one of the songs of the first album vaguely surreal in a way even F&W
couldn't have predicted.

and lots of people said how great Moose are, which means that at least four
people own copies of "Live a Little, Love a lot" - including me - and I have
to confess that before I heard the song, I thought that "Last Balloon to
Nice" would be a charming little song about floating off to a pleasant
French town.

Oasis, shmoasis I say.  I was very excited when I heard Supersonic, it
features on one old radio tape about three or four times, and I remember
asking a friend to buy the single for me when he went into town.  "Oasis" I
said, "Who?"  quoth he.  And then suddenly everyone started buying oasis,
and roll with it was crap and I got bored and haven't listened to any of the
mad up for it genius tune-stealing meat and potato drumming rifferama
quartet's stuff since then.

That aside, there wasn't much going on musically then, although I do faintly
recall borrowing Pavement's Crooked Rain at one point and quite enjoying it,
and it was then that I discovered Grant Lee Buffalo, so I have to say that
the post sandal-staring era wasn't all bad.  Menswear, however, will always
be a mistake.
