worshipped enough to please me) is Giant Sand, though off shoots like
Calexico and Friends Of Dean Martinez are getting some exposure Giant
Sand is criminally unknown in general im sure plenty of people will
disagree with me but i have to say that they are the best band in
america if not the most talented group of three musicians"
...And all I can do is agree. Newcomers to their twisted desert rock
should check out Swerve, The Love Songs, Ramp, Center Of The Universe et
al right away. Of course, live they are somewhat ramshackle, but as Howe
Gelb once remarked its all part of a search for the "wobble and the
crawl". He's a one-off, an utterly captivating flake poet genius while
his rhythm section are as tight as the legendary gnat's chuff. They did
the best ever version of 'All Along The Watchtower' and had the audacity
to follow it up with the best 'Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory'
you'll ever hear too. And OP8's cover of 'Round And Round' is also
bewitching, in a Shoey revival kinda' way.
Now then, having seen how quickly you all picked up the conversational
baton re. what you are wearing (hmm, cardies and indie band T-shirts
still seem to predominate) and what you all think of B&S' font usage (at
least one of you was particularly effusive on this vital matter), I
should now like to know how many of us are, like the good Mr Murdoch,
left-handed. That's left-handed in the left-handed sense of the word, by
the way. I am, and I reckon there's an above average proportion of us
cack-handed-useless-with-scissors-stick-our-tongues-out-when-trying-to-
use-a-potato-peeler-types out there. Look at my website and you'll see I
even play my bass in the 'sinister' fashion.
