In either case, aren't they the things they put over the eyes of frisky 
racehorses to ensure they run forwards and aren't distracted by other 
horses/events around them?

Consequently, an english saying exists, ie. "A blinkered view", meaning 
someone who has very set and unshakeable views on something.
