So, OK, while we're on the subject of Willy Wonka and poetry-quote
attributions, I think there's another line in the movie that comes from
somewhere else... when Mr. Wonka says, "We are the music makers, and we
are the dreamers of dreams." (approximately; haven't seen it in a while.)
Do any of you poetry-lovers know the original source? Maybe John's mother
can tell us. I don't think it's Shakespeare, but maybe something 19th
century... I ran across it in the library once but I can't remember
where, and it's been bothering me ever since.
Pedantically,

That is a paraphrase of one of my favourite lines in the English
language. I think it comes from the Merchant of Venice and it's said by
Portia I believe...
"Mark how this little candle throws it's beam,
So shines a good deed in a naughty world".
