That's a flame and a pretty nasty one, directed at a list member, and
I won't have it on my list.  I've seen a thousands lists die this
way, it brings everyone down, makes people nervous of posting, and
leads to another 20 posts about who's the biggest arse on the list,
which is very boring for the rest of us.  Maybe Julien's explanation
was a little, um, full and outside the scope of the original
question, but I'd rather have someone French explaining a French word
in a B&S song, because there had been some confusion, than this sort
of reactionary knee-jerk.  Consider this a warning, Nonny - flaming
is the biggest sin on this list, considerally bigger than sending a
party political broadcast (although please stop this too now! there
are other political theory mailing lists out there you know...).  I
don't know any other way to say it than: be nice or be gone.

Thanks David while I'm here for setting up the message boards on the
Jeepster site for gig meet-ups and ticket swaps.  Please could
everyone who needs to sell/get tickets use his board for now rather
than the list as it was getting a little swamped.  And maybe we could
have a few less mishearings :)  We've got a stack of them on the WWW
site from ages ago, so if anyone wants to update that page with the
latest, ahem, B&S ones, if it still amuses, then grab the HTML off my
page, add new ones from the list and send it back to me - you get
your name in lights if you do.  I just haven't time or the fingers to
do this sort of compiling just now - I need a set of little elves
with pointy ears and nice table manners.

Brier's comments on WWW sites: for many people B&S DO represent the
urge to go out and create things for yourself, and I'm really pleased
every time I see someone from this who's done something creative on
the WWW, rather than following the all-too-common tendency to patch
together a scrapbook of other people's work.  But you were a little
too harsh on David: he's merely pointing out it exists already,
there's a photo page which was set up by popular demand from
*listees* for anyone who wants to send one and there's a lot there
already.  And more importantly there's a baby page, because there's
nothing better than seeing a Sinisterine who's just posted something
about literary criticism dribbling babyfood down her or his chin.
And that more entries are of course welcome - just mail JPGs to me.
It just seems a bit daft to have two pages, that's all.

I'd really rather not have multiple spin-off Sinister WWW sites.
People seem to have trouble enough finding the real one, where
there's bags of information that people ask the list about instead of
looking up.  I can at least claim to keep the existing Sinister site
reasonably up-to-date (when I'm not in bed), because it's got to be
for my sake, and I'm scared of an ever-increasing number of disparate
*Sinister* resources, with information about the list that might get
out of date.  But I think everyone here would be pleased to see new
creative B&S sites with new content.  No-one's trying to get all BBC
about this (that's until I start charging for list membership. :)

Oh gosh, and thanks everyone for stopping that UK/US thing: it
reminds me of how special this list can be, every other list I'm on
seems to be exploding with civil war just now.  You're all good
little things really and when I get better I'll buy you some sweets
and take you to the park.

in London having fun without me; thanks so much, my cheeks are all
rosy.  Finally thanks to Chris Leonard who's special recipe to make
me well is to bombard me with filthy smut via email all day: he's
telling me about his wee-wee just now.
