Hi List,
Philippe and Kevan were discussing French swingin' sixties stars like
Francoise Hardy and France Gall the other day,and I just wanted to say that
there was also a funny male called Michel Polnareff.
In his early days in around 1964/65 he looked quite handsome and sang
beautiful little songs, like "La pouppe qui fait non","Le roi de fourmis",
"Ame Caline" etc.,simply accompanied by his guitar, some cellos and a squeaky
hammond organ.I tracked down some of his original vinyl records a few years
ago and never stopped listening to them.
Unfortunately Polnareff later lost all his charm and simplicity and
reinvented himself as some sort of frightul, androgynous creature,
stalking the stage in his underwear, with massive shades and a horrendous
haircut.
Sadly photographs of that sort now grace every of his compilations and
surely scare of any half interested kid. It's a shame,he should have left the
drag business to other people who did it better.
Well I just thought I should mention him,he's no competion to Francoise and
France(who made some nasty comeback records as well,by the way),but his
early stuff is lovely.
Bye everyone,
Stephane - what happened to you? No messages on the list from you for days,I
hope you are well.
NIK
