Sinister: Some thoughts...

Forgive the intrusion oh well established list people but I have been
lurking on the list for a couple of week snow and thought it was time
I introduced myself properly and share my thoughts about B&S with you
(if you are interested).

My name is Giles Paterson and I'm still a student at the delightful
University of Bradford, although this is my final year so I shall soon
have to face the cruel and scary world head on (or maybe just slip
quietly into the flow if that works better...).

Anyway, I was introduced into the world of B&S last year when my
sisiter gave me "If you're feeling sinister" on CD (not owning a
working record player as she does). I listened to it all summer long
whilst working for virtually no money. Sadly my girlfriend (sorry
fiancee), Cate, did notlike the music as much as I did, which was a
shame especially as our music tastes are usually very similar in other
respects (okay so she doesn't like my Moloko CD and I don't like her
Bananarama CD but you get the idea). Anyway a year later and I have
now turned 21 and purchased "The boy with the arab strap" which I
think is pretty damn good (although I've only listened to it 4 times
so far so some of the tracks may grow on me some more raising the
album even further in my esteem). Sadly I do not own any of the EPs
that B&S have done as whenever I have heard about them I am unable to
or am too late to find them in my local record shops (I'm probably
just looking in the wrong ones - Can anyone suggest a good record shop
in Bradford?). I think TBWTAS may well be the album to fully convert
Cate to the "Joys of B&S".

Reasons for liking B&S? They seem to be a very "human" band. In that I
mean that they act like real people and not like star-struck
seek-fame-at-the-expense-of-all-else fools that so many bands seem to
develop into. Having just taken a look at the treehouse web site,
jeepster's web site and others, I find B&S to be an inspirational
group of people, especially Stuart David's Ink Polaroids. I may try my
hand at some of those, to develop my latent writing yearnings. Oh yeah
and the music is good too.

Well most of you are probably not even remotely interested in my inane
ramblings and I apologise for cluttering up your mail box. However I
thought it only polite to introduce myself rather than lurking in the
shadows like some sort of shadowy, lurking thing. 

If anyone has any ink polaroids or similar that they would like to
share with me then please feel free to email me
(g.paterson at scm.brad.ac.uk - just in case your mail program is being
very silly and not showing you my address). Or if you just want to
chat, or if anyone would like to take me under their wing in this
world of B&S.
