Afternoon all.

I don't think anyone's posted this review of the London show yet. It is the
most deliriously dreadful piece of journalism I have ever read, and I love
it to bits. It appeared in the London Evening Standard, and is written by
the appropriately named Max Bell.

THE MAJESTY IN MURDOCH MOB'S MAGIC MIX

The Scottish band Belle and Sebastian borrow their name from Cecile Aubry's
tale of a boy and his Pyrenean mountain dog. The book was a cult TV item in
the seventies, rather as Stuart Murdoch's deliciously off-beat group are
now, although there were far more than one garcon and his chien at the
Empire last night as B and S celebrated their third album, The Boy with the
Arab Strap, in front of a packed house who cheered their heroes to the
rafters. Renowned for a shambolic approach to live performances, the Strap
got their act together here, thanks to crowd pleasers from If You're Feeling
Sinister and Tiger Milk. Once ensconced, Murdoch's mob turned Stars of Track
and Field into a world-beating exercise in melodic, million-dollar pop that
Marion Jones would have appreciated. Basking in musical territory
reminiscent of US West Coast legends like Love and the Byrds, while always
keeping one foot on the rhythmic panache of the Velvet Underground, this
most esoteric yet accessible of bands ensured that Is It Wicked not to Care
and Spaceboy Dream left their fanatical following limp with delight.

Well, there you have it. I defy anyone to ever come up with more cliches,
mixed metaphors, errors, etc in the space of a 300 word review. Absolute
genius.

Oh, and I nominate Joss in Dublin to come up with next Monday's poem.

Looking forward to the video on MTV tonight,

DAVID
