and before all and sundry pipe up with 'so THAT's why the duke isn't
going to Bowlie!' i wish to stress once again that i am not, have never
been and never WILL be a Goth, despite what the Hopkins man might
whisper so seductively in your ear or what Tag might trawl from the
depths of his record bag to 'introduce' me on thursday.

and now, on a much more serious note, can i urge you all to take note of
the following publication, presented by the same people that brought you
something about Pop, but for an altogether much more worthwhile cause.
Get your pennies out...

VOICES FOR KOSOVO

Produced in association with the charity Children's Aid Direct, this
anthology aims to raise awareness and - more importantly - money for the
refugee crisis in Kosovo. It is an anthology to challenge, inform and
stimulate the reader, one that will save lives.

Contributors include those involved in the situation, either as victims
of
war or as aid workers, and a selection of writing by famous and
not-so-famous authors from all over the British Isles and beyond.

All money from sales of this book is going to Children's Aid Direct.

Since February 1998 the scale of ethnic unrest in Kosovo has continued
to
spiral. Children's Aid Direct, having been working there since 1995,
have
been forced to suspend all aid distribution in Kosovo itself and staff
are
now located in key positions in the Republic of Macedonia and Albania,
where they can continue to respond to the emergency needs of refugees.
These people, displaced within the Balkan region, and refugees arriving
in
neighbouring countries, are deeply traumatised, having lost everything.
Some of the poorest countries in Europe are bearing the brunt.

Continued financial support will be needed not only to respond to this
current emergency but to ensure that homes and lives can rebuilt when
this
crisis is over. Please order this book.

LET THERE BE NO WAR

A war is a cruel word
nobody loves it
a war is a deep wound
which is painful forever
There have been many
little orphans
who know no more
for childish jokes
All people are the same
of flesh and blood
let he be punished
who war starts the first
Let there be flowers sown
all around the world
and let the children blossom
in joy and happiness
We don't war ever
to be a war again
let it be written
in history only
Every child wants
to dream peacefully
and to play
some new games tomorrow
Every child needs a mum
and a dad too,
Let us all shout out
LET THERE BE NO WAR
          Nela (Kosova; 8 years)
