Sinister: life in a bubblehouse

i've got a question for you folks over in merry olde england.  right now i'm going into my last year of college here in massachusetts.  all ive been thinking about for the past six months or so has been how much i'd like to go to england after next year to study (right now i'm leaning towards law, although i'm also considering evolutionary/ behavioral psychology.  i love both subjects, so that's a tough decision in and of itself, but anyhow...).  my question for you guys is this:

  where in england and/or scotland do you feel would be the most interesting place to hang out and do some book-learnin' for a year or two.  i'm leaning towards manchester, but am wide open for suggestions, especially after hearing from some friends who went to st. andrews a couple of years ago that manchester is not liked in those parts.  anyway, i thank you for whatever help you might be able to provide this ignorant boy.   

i bought an extra-value meal at mcdonalds yesterday and gave it to a guy who was pan-handling at a park near where i work.  he ate some of it, i guess, but later on i saw him feeding  french fries to some small birds.  i guess he figured they looked hungrier than he felt.  

this had little to do with b&s, but probably as much as female masturbation ('dialing the fun phone'?) does.  oh well...
