Hello.
My name is Mike and I just got out of the nursery. I'm originally from Los
Angeles, but I now live in Idaho. I bought IYFS a year or so ago simply
because I thought the cover looked cool -- I had no idea that I was about to
hear some of the most beautiful and brilliant music ever recorded. "The
Stars of Track and Field" stuns me to this day, every time I play it. I
remember seeing the Smiths in '85 at the Hollywood Palladium and being very
conscious of the fact that I was in the midst of something powerful and
lasting, and I really hadn't felt that way again until I discovered B&S.
Last month I finally got to hear Tigermilk for the first time, and I was not
disappointed. It blows my mind that a debut album can contain songs as
perfect and expansive as "My Wandering Days Are Over" or "We Rule the
School". I also love "I Could Be Dreaming" and "You're Just a Baby", which
are pure Velvet Underground. One thing I've noticed while digging through
the posting archives is, for the most part, TBWTAS is regarded as something
of a disappointment. I couldn't disagree more -- I think it's a brilliant,
logical expansion of the band's sound. I just wish they would've thrown
"Slow Graffiti" (their crowning achievement to date, in my not-so-humble
opinion) on that album, where it would've fit perfectly....

I've just realized that I'm rambling. So I'd better stop.

Bye,

Mike
