Sinister: soundman let me down again

hello cuties,

i've listened back to the tape of the vertical smile ) gig last thursday, and my fears were confirmed: the soundman was our 5th member for the night. not only did he confuse me to what sounds were emitted from the drums throughout the whole gig, but he also added lots of echo and effects to everyone else's voices and instruments...ok, so the guitarist used a lot of wah wah as (gorgeous) jeff told me, but not that much! and maybe it sounded ok to you out there, but the hideous drone from the drums he had for me was not at all what i play or what i wanted the drums to sound like. so for me, it was a messy muddy gig....but it happens.

anyway, it was nice to see lots of faces from last saturday's picnic during the week - tim h!o!p!kins, (bobbed black hair) pam, and two others whose names are on my tongue but my tongue wont tell me. they were all at the smith garrett band's tuesday night gig at the lil backyard club. and thanks to arantxa, gorgeous jeff, new face kate (to me at least), a guy called legendary, (will?) debbie and drunken/dark matt (delete as applicable) for turning up on thursday. i pretended not be to nervous but i was cos i had a lot of people turn up who hadnt heard the band before, so their expectations played on my mind....no thanks to the soundman....

thanks also to pamela h. who plugged the gig on this list but couldnt go as she has a "prior engagement with some experimental disco goth metal opera at Dingwalls." pamela, there were plenty of goths in the crowd cos of dream city film club....dcfc didnt seem gothy, but you can never tell what goths are into. maybe adam ant? maybe buffalo springfield? maybe steps? who knows.

as mentioned above, i met a girl called kate, and she writes for an online zine called kittencore:

www.kittencore.co.uk

she says she slagged off the belle and sebastian bowlie gig in a review, but you cant hate her for that cos she's too cute and likes yo la tengo.

well, my next scheduled night out is at Mark's tigermilky extravaganza on Friday 13th upstairs at the garage. unless we're all blinded by the eclipse this wednesday, i hope to SEE you there.

PS
alasdair writes funny things so i thought i'd give it a repeat on bbc2:

Robin Redbreast (who is going to Bowlie#2, because I say so) said:

> I dreamt that I was at Bowlie II,
> although for some reason I was sleeping in a tent, and I was walking across
> a field when suddenly I started being divebombed by a radio-controlled
> aeroplane. It was like The Birds.

Which is funny because I was once divebombed by Roger McGuinn, Chris
Hillman, David Crosby, Gene Clark and Michael Clarke.

amos writes in a copycat style:
i went to see the pastels once and i couldnt believe just how juicy they really were.
(apologies in advance for that....)
