Sinister: Y I'm o-k 2...

Hi all,
I wasn't afraid of y2k until I read Johan's warning
about staying away from big cities b/c of riots.
Hadn^Òt really even thought of it ^Ö my mind won^Òt let
me make a big deal out of it for some reason, it^Òs the
same with birthdays (and that^Òs just not a good thing
at all^Å) Anyway, I^Òm inclined to not believe the hype,
especially for my city (though we did have a riot when
the Canucks missed out on the Stanley Cup a few years
back.) Maybe I will have to fly away overseas for the
mayhem in Iceland...
I bought the Acid House soundtrack, yes, Belle and
Sebastian Slow Graffiti, is right there in the middle,
yaay. Soundtracks are a whole different thing when you
haven^Òt seen the movie (and I haven^Òt cause it^Òs not
out here yet.) I^Òm trying to guess the movie^Òs
theme/tone by listening to the music, but what will
happen once I see the movie? I suppose all the songs
will take on slightly new meaning of course. I can
understand why one would stop buying soundtracks, even
if the movie is really good. I^Òd say more, but
apparently I am intellectually vacant today, sorry. Oh
but also, music always taints the moment (and isn^Òt
this part of why we listen to it?) and when listening
to a soundtrack not only is your moment affected by
the music but your moment is affected by the meaning
of the music in its movie moment, so that you are
doubly affected, feeling perhaps that you should feel
a)like you did in the theatre at that moment in the
film and/or b)like the characters in the movie during
the time the music was playing and/or c) one or both
plus how you feel at the moment you^Òre listening to
the song wherever you may be (ie at home doing the
dishes on a sunny day.) I buy soundtracks b/c of all
of this I suppose. After a while, the movie begins to
fade and the music is just there alone. This kind of
segues into and back to discussions about music and
romantic situations ^Ö some people put on mood music,
but what if you^Òre putting on mood music from a
soundtrack? Are you then in a way, even
subconsciously, ^Óre-enacting^Ô a movie moment? Or are
you just going for a certain tone/mood? Okay, I^Òve
made this all waaaay too complex and boring and if I
don^Òt stop now will contradict myself over and over
and over again.

Maybe y2k will bring the rain^Å
Robyn, currently thinking about buying the Rushmore
soundtrack, but afraid of it re-enforcing her crush on
Max, an entirely fictional person who^Òs never going to
grow up or be real. It^Òs all for the best, I guess.
