That "Feltrospective" album contained some mouthwatering unreleased
tracks, so it might well be worth waiting for....
I don't know whether I'm subscribed or not at the moment, I put it all
down to the Cancelbot lurking down Honey's trousers. Whatever, I got a
load of old messages this morning, including one form the Duke:
and with respect to Stax, well yes i realise that there was a mish
mash
of noise on Stax, as indeed there was on Motown, but you can't let
little details like actual facts ruin your theories, now can you? Pop
theorists have an unimpeachable right to make up any old bollocks if
it
sounds funny and/or pretentious enough. i mean did Marcus Greil let
the
fact that Bruce Springsteen records are actually shite deflect his
arguments? No he did not. I rest my case...
Quite right. It's just this concept of "the Stax sound" that's doing
the rounds these days, and although I think I know what they mean, I'm
not sure. I know what "the Motown sound" means, even though it was
often veered away from with wild abandon. I think the problem may be
that we use the word "formula" as a kind of shorthand for "series of
formulas". Hmmm. Yes, I'm sure that's it. By the way, I got a smutty,
childish and frankly pathetic mental image when Duke wrote:
As for a sequel to Young and Foolish, well there is the Felt book that
will hopefully come together this year, as long as Lawrence doesn't
pull
out.
Terrible, I know. It's because of "Grandad's False Teeth" I suppose.
Normally I don't stoop quite so low.
Madame Oooon and her secret team of scientists are trying to produce
evil elephant clones in Thailand, and Leonard DeCaprio has inflicted
his hairy coconuts on the peaceful island of Pee Pee. All this from
the BBC, as well as the shocking fact that 60% of records are bought
by women. Let's hope they all vote for B&S in the Brit awards, so that
we get to laugh at Stuart at the ceremony.
WHO content: The other day I went to the pictures and I saw a trailer
and it was Bug Story or something, with computerised ants and
caterpillars and what not, and the music was 70s WHO, which should be
a nice surprise for the kids who go and see it. It was "Baba O'Riley",
perhaps it was chosen for the ant-like quality of the opening
synthesizer sequence that we all know and love. And then I saw a film,
Very Bad Things, and it was good and you should go and see it if you
want to.
Fluffy, our prayers are with you for a speedy recovery.
