Sinister: I'm thin I'm cool I'm a piece of wire

I can't understand indie fashion.  
In the military we call those free glasses "BCG'S", short for "Birth 
Control Glasses". I got a pair because I always saw dorky indie boys in 
corduroys and those glasses squiring around the hottest young foxes in 
fake fur and barettes, and I tried them on, and I literally felt 
disfigured.  I mean, I'm none too sweet on my looks as it stands, but 
walking around in those glasses I felt handicapped. Capital-U Ugly 
enough to be euthanized. 
Bah.
Of course it helps not that my prescription is even thicker than the 
unbreakable dark-brown plastic, but still.
Funniest of all was when I took my brother to a Magnetic Fields show in 
New York, he being a total alien to indie/Village subbacultcha, and  
looking like a buzzard besides, couldn't understand why so many 
otherwise really gorgeous people would make themselves so ugly, he 
having found not a single haircut nor outfit in his life that didn't 
make him look slightly avian. "What's up with the BOCES fashions?" 
(BOCES is the vocational program in New York State where they send the 
'special' people to learn trades like auto mechanics and beginner 
can-opener repair - when I look back at what I did learn in high school 
I wish they'd let me join). 
Someday someone will explain the lure of "lo-fi" as well.
