Sinister: blair witch/eyes wide

Have to disagree. Eyes Wide Shut is the best movie made in the last 2 years.
Slow talking and the "sparse piano music"? Ever seen 2001? It's called
"effect" - not all movies are meant to keep you on the edge of your seat.
And you must have been compelled by the "cult" and what that was all about.
And 2001 was also hated by critics in its day, yet those same critics now
call it one of the best movies ever made. Kubrick is (was) a great
moviemaker. It's unfair to dismiss his movie as a "tit flick".

Now, if you wanna talk about really bad, overhyped movies, check out The
Thin Red Line (I survived it last night). It makes Saving Private Ryan look
interesting. Moral of the story: war is bad. Provocative? For a good war
movie, see Full Metal Jacket (also Kubrick).

     someone asked:
American listees who have seen either "Eyes Wide Shut" and "Blair
Witch Project" (can't wait to see both of 'em).

ok,ok...i have to say that i haven't been so overly disappointed by
two seemingly exciting films in a long time. my advise is: don't buy
the hype. save your money for another copy of tigermilk.

"blair witch" has a great premise and is overall well-done, but it
failed the ultimate test for me...it WASN'T scary!!! maybe if i was
ten years old...or afraid of the dark. c'mon, i love to make videos
and shoot film as much as the next fledgling director, but i felt the
characters really started to lose credibility when they were running
around with their cameras turned on. if something is chasing you and
you're scared to death, screw the heavy equipment--either drop it or
use it as a weapon. film the ghoul or live? hmmm, tough question. but
alas this would've destroyed the premise... plus the people spent an
awful large amount of time sitting around moping instead of getting
the hell out. great idea, not scary. maybe it's also because i'm just
not scared of ghosts... midnight crackheads and painfully high rent
     frighten me more.

now on to the masterpiece itself--"eyes wide shut". inexcusably
excrutiatingly dull. if people talked this slow, nothing would ever be
communicated. this film was obviously made by a man. it's pretty much
just a titty movie with skinny model girls running around tempting tom
cruise. i did have a good time laughing at the "rituals" that occur,
but please, the underground sex scenes are vanilla at best. ho hum.
everyone's white and rich and boring. this film might have had
something interesting to say 20 years ago or if it had been made by
     david lynch.

ok, that's all...if you wanna see something more suspenseful, waste
your money on "arlington rd"...if you wanna see something at least a
bit more provocative, check out "summer of sam"...if you wanna see a
     tit flick, buy tigermilk.

i've got the beginnings of a stomach illness today and i'm blaming
"eyes wide shut" (perhaps the really annoying sparse piano music which
was supposed to signify ???)...i really want my 7 bucks and 3 hours
     back please.

     sign me.bitter.
