so i was reading the thing about safe and velvet goldmine and all this.
and i agree that those two movies are good, but you forgot to mention
why. they were beautiful. i had heard a lot of things before seeing
velvet goldmine, most were negative. but when i saw the movie i was so
surprised. it was wonderful, the shots were beautiful, they lingered
and flowed into one another. it was like watching a dream, or
remembering a feeling that you thought was gone. i saw it as being
about david bowie and iggy pop, though i know nothing of glam rock
really, so i can't guess what was real and what wasn't. but it wasn't
really important. it's like, rock and roll creates superstars.
jonathan rhys-meyers was beautiful, he glowed. he was a star, a totally
unattainable person, some combination of sensuality and cold
perfection. it's the idea of having this person who is totally
unattainable and completly desirable. no one can possess him. and as
the movie changed, it said a lot, well, to me anyway. about how
meaningless appearances can be, and how sad it is when an idol falls.
and of course, there was full frontal ewan. ;) but really, i was in
love with this picture. when i make films, i want to create that sense
of space. it's hard to explain what i mean by that. i guess it's just
something that i can sense in some movies, this space between the
characters, between the audience and the actors, and the space that
surrounds each moment that allows it to last just the right amount of
time, so that it doesn't fade away too quickly.

i don't like classifying movie makers together based on how they live.
all the ones mentionned here are good. some people will see what i saw,
and others will be determined that i was smoking crack. i loved todd
solondz's films. too bad i can't spell his name though. welcome to the
dollhouse is so how i remember junior high to be. luckily i wasn't dawn
werner (thank god) but i had some similar experiences.

so that's completely removed from anything having to do with belle and
sebastian. i was looking for b&s mp3's of unreleased stuff but couldn't
find any. poo.
