Sinister: dig them potatos if you never dug your girl before

Hi there,

This list reminds me of a Clint Eastwood movie. Well, not really. But there is a movie called Heartbreak
Ridge and it's about a bad-ass sergeant who's known to everyone as Gunny. This character is of course played
by Mr. Eastwood. Gunny gets a transfer to a new "boot camp" (I believe that's what they're called, but I
wouldn't actually know as I managed to cheat my way out of military service) and here he's assigned to train
a bunch of  lazy-ass men who's used to never doing anything at all. But Gunny of course isn't going to let
them fail to become hard-ass army chaps (tm. Damien Hirst/ Keith Allen) so he bad-asses them around for a
bit. BUT the lazy-asses have a secret weapon, THE SWEDE. The Swede is apparently the mutha of all bad-asses
and as soon as he get's out of the "army jail" (I'm sure there's a proper word for that) he's going to kick
Gunny's arse BIG time. So much of the first part of the movie is spent hyping the Swede (much in the same way
they did with Godzilla in that movie, or so I heard, I haven't seen it myself, being the intellectually
elitist snob I am). There's so much talk of the Swede that you think you're going to have to be let down when
you finally see him. I've seen the film a few times, god knows why, and every time I think "the Swede can't
possible be that tough...." and every time I end up pleasantly surprised that he is rather mean. But then of
course Gunny beats him up with no problems whatsoever. Umm, the point of this story was that it reminded me
of the current Hopkins Hype (tm old listees). 

A friend of mine ALMOST met a celebrity the other day. Mr. Tommy Lee was apparently walking around Oslo and
my friend spent rest of her day asking the customers of the coffee house where she works if they'd seen Bruce
Lee earlier on. 

There's a song on TBWTAS that (to my musically untrained ears) appears to contain the riff from Omar's
"There's Nothing Like This". I'd check which song it is, but I can't find my sister's copy of the album. 

I also heard my first ever Tigermilk song the other day, don't know what the song was. It was on national
Norwegian radio, I think it's our equivalent of Radio 3, but I'm not completely sure. It's the sort of
station that usually plays horrible "adult-pop" (you know.....the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkle etc.) and
occasionally Something For The Weekend if they really want to ROCK OUT!!! The radio presenter talked about
Tigermilk being rare and that and I could just picture thousands of Norwegian 40 year olds sitting in their
cars wondering why the bloody hell they were being told this shite.

Tomorrow at 7.00 p.m. I shall be seeing my all-time favorite movie on a big screen for the first time in my
life. The movie in question is the divine Withnail & I.

I find that particularly that last one is almost impossible to listen to, not only because of the lyrics, but
because of how it was Ian Curtis' last song and so on.

Oh, one more thing, "Today" from Surrealistic Pillow is one of the best songs EVER!! And another thing, I'll
be well impressed if anyone can tell me the author of today's fine subject line.

Erlend (who is going to listen to the 40 minute version of "Blue Room" by the Orb now, slightly upset that he
woke up too late to catch today's Home And Away re-runs.)
