Sinister: everyone who is real does not have a name

it was said about j.d. salinger in regard to the young woman with whom he
possibly had an affair that this made him a pervert, but i don't think
this is right. i remember reading a review of the woman's book which shed
light on this state of affairs and her picture revealed her to look
exactly as i imagined jane (who kept all her kings in the back row) in
_catcher in the rye_ would look! and if j.d. salinger was young enough to
write about holden caufield at whatever age he wrote about him, then maybe
the age difference, which supposedly makes the affair scandalous, was not
as great as it would have been, chronologically speaking. in the
aftermath, there are always recriminations on both sides.

the photos on the sinister site are great. there are a lot more listee
photos now. i instantly knew whom someone meant when he (she?) said he
(she) voted for her based on her photo. (and i checked.) she could be
lolita. and that is another example of the jane (i don't know her real
name)/j.d. salinger theme. cos it seems _lolita_ is only effective if you
take humbert humbert's point of view seriously. cos she did betray him,
too.

sometimes it has to do with when people appear contrary to your
expectations. that is what is happening to me now in the process of
email personalities and names becoming attached to faces. an example of
this is someone whom i mistakenly thought would be indian with an olive
complexion and huge dark eyes and heavy lashes, but my stock of proper
English names was incomplete. he turned out to be all fair hair and
peaches and cream complexion and extremely innocent looking, which made
everything he wrote or that was written about him seem all the more
shocking.

childhood photos are best. someone seems to have had an especially happy
one. this person should remain faceless and only be imagined as a perky
waitress with a pink uniform in a 50s diner by day and a French barmaid
with a cream colored apron (with ruffles) and fishnet stockings by night.

cheers,
youn
